Presets and Filters
Simply using presets and filters, or a combination of both, can help you achieve the photo effect you’re
looking for. With a combination of editing techniques your photo effect options are endless — every photo
is a canvas for creative experiment.
Presets
For example, an automatic preset like ‘60’s Black and White’ will add a journalistic vintage film texture, and make your photos look classic and edgy. Or something like ‘Portrait Glamour’ will give your photo an ethereal quality, like in certain styled wedding photos.
It’s simple! Explore the options, and adjust them to your liking!
Filters
Let’s say you’d like to create your own vintage photo effect, in color. For this you could add an adjustable filter effect like “Grain,” lift the black tones from the picture to loosen the contrast, and then play with the temperature and tint to achieve that perfect vintage hue in the photo. To make this vintage photo effect more ‘Lomo’ try adding a slight vignette and then use HSL controls to adjust each color separately.
With this you can make those blues really pop, and reduce more distracting tones in the photo. This is a great way to achieve those surf-style photo effects — perfect for beach scenes!
Layers and Textures
Layers and textures bring an added level to photo editing. You can blend various photos together to
create a totally unique effect, or composite image. By adding a texture overlay you can bring dimension to
your photo. For example, to make a photo look underwater, you can upload a photo of water as a texture.
Simply add a ‘Texture Overlay’ under ‘Filters.’
Creative Double Exposures
Another example of creative photo editing using layers or textures is a double exposure effect. Add a layer of a new photo and simply pull down the opacity. To take the effect even further, you can even isolate the layered photo to only one part of the scene.
For example, if you want only someone’s hair to be filled with trees, simply use the mask brush and paint around her hair to achieve the final visual effect.
