General Updates

Meet the coziest update of the season. Luminar 1.29.0 brings smarter cropping, more realistic atmosphere effects, and new ways to bring your photos to life on paper. Let’s take a look at what’s new:

• New Export. Exporting now opens a full-screen mode with a live preview of the result. Add a text or image watermark, remove photos from the export queue, and choose Long Edge, Short Edge or Dimensions when resizing. Luminar remembers your settings between sessions.
• Print at home. A new print mode with ICC profile support and soft proofing shows how a photo will look on paper before you print it. You can sign your work or save it as a print-ready JPEG or PDF.
• Order prints from a pro lab. Order fine art prints, posters, framed prints, canvas and metal straight from Luminar, with delivery to your door.
• Smarter Composition. Crop now suggests up to 12 compositions based on classic rules like Rule of Thirds, Golden Ratio and Golden Spiral. It shows the grid behind each suggestion, and a new Auto button straightens the horizon in one click.
• Atmosphere. Fog is now rendered as real 3D volume inside the scene. It picks up color from your photo, reacts to the sun and street lights, and settles naturally on the ground. Move the clouds with Clouds Drift and control how high the fog rises with Height.
• Enhance, rebuilt. Results look more natural. Highlights no longer blow out, colors don’t oversaturate, edges have no halos and skin stays soft, even with the slider at 100%.
• Improved generative tools. GenErase, GenSwap and GenExpand give cleaner, more reliable results. They also retry automatically when a generation doesn’t work out.
• New AI Assistant. The Assistant now holds a real conversation. It edits your photo, suggests the right tool, explains how to do something yourself, gives honest feedback on your shot and answers questions about Luminar.

On top of that, Luminar now supports macOS 27, helping you keep your editing workflow up to date.

You’ll also find support for the Canon EOS R8 II and OM System PEN cameras, along with bug fixes and performance improvements across the app.

With improved DNG support, quicker tools, and broader camera compatibility, this version gives you a smoother editing experience from import to export. Let’s explore what’s new:

• Better DNG support. Luminar now uses the official Adobe DNG SDK for DNG handling, helping more DNG files open as they were recorded by your camera, with more accurate color and white balance. Apple ProRAW photos from iPhone now open properly and are ready for full RAW editing in Develop. We’ve also added support for DNG files compressed with the JPEG XL codec, so you no longer need to convert them in another editor before working with them in Luminar.
• Invite friends. Sharing Luminar with friends is now easier than ever. The rebuilt referral program is available directly from the left sidebar, Luminar menu, and Account menu. • Faster editing tools. Details now works up to 40% faster, while Bokeh AI is about 15% faster. Enjoy more responsive previews while fine-tuning your edits, with less waiting when working with heavier tools.

You’ll also find improved camera support for Apple, Samsung, Google, and DJI DNG RAWs, giving you more flexibility when working with photos from a wider range of devices.

Warning: Starting with the next release, Luminar will no longer support macOS 12 Monterey. The minimum supported version will be macOS 13 Ventura. If you’re using macOS 12, your current version of Luminar will continue to work, but you won’t receive future updates until you upgrade your system.

Meet Magic LightAI, the seventh Extension for Luminar Neo. This Extension allows you to control multiple light sources in your photo. The neural network at the core of Magic Light AI analyzes the photo and looks for any points emitting light. It then lets you make them more intense, add beams, and adjust the glow. It works best with artificial light sources such as incandescent or Edison-style LED light bulbs, street lights, and decorative lights. There are also multiple sliders that give you even more control over the results.

Are you ready for one of the most exciting updates of the year? The Skylum Team is proud to present Luminar Neo Update 1.5.0, which contains not one, not two, but four new Extensions! 

Focus Stacking combines many images taken at different focal lengths to deliver a crisp result with a greater depth of field than in any of the individual source images. Stack up to 100 source images and they’ll automatically be aligned and cropped based on the reference photo. Lens and chromatic aberration corrections can also be applied to raw photos.

Upscale AI enhances image resolution in a natural way. Before upscaling, the tool exports the image to save all edits made to the original file. It works both with raw and non-raw files and can upscale them up to 6X, giving the best results on 2X and 4X enhancements.

Background Removal AI automatically removes the background behind the subject in a photo. You can also select multiple subjects that you want to leave and remove the rest. The refinement brush allows you to fix any imperfections.

Supersharp AI helps you transform a photo with a moving subject from blurry to sharp. The neural network calculates a photo’s depth, perspective, and context. With this information, it can deblur and correct the focus with compression algorithms. Easily eliminate motion blur. 

All of these Extensions are now available in Luminar Neo for Pro Plan monthly and yearly subscribers, as well as for owners of the 2022 Extensions Pack.
