Celebrate World Oceans Day with Skylum

Who doesn't love the ocean? Even if you've never dipped a toe in the water, the ocean holds a mystique over humans in a way that nothing else does (except probably the Universe). The ocean draws us to it and whether you love it for meditation, recreation or something else, it's something to be revered.

June 8th is World Oceans Day. Even if you have never heard about this Day before, there are many reasons why you may want to know more. Here are just some of them…

The oceans occupy nearly 71% of our planet's surface, and contain over 97% of all the planet’s water. 94% of life on Earth is aquatic. That makes we land-dwellers a VERY SMALL minority. At the same time 80% of all pollution in seas and oceans comes from human activities. Plastic waste alone kills up to 1 million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish each year. And don't get us started on oil pollution, cruise ship trash and more...

This week Skylum will join the celebration of World Oceans Day. We’ve partnered with some great underwater/seascapes photographers, like Anuar Patjane and Ray Collins, to show you the beauty of the World Ocean and its creatures.

And last, but not least, to show our commitment we’ve joined forces with WDC (Whale and Dolphin Conservation).
