While most photographers heavily rely on AWB (Auto White Balance) there's something to be said for taking the time to getting it right. After all, every color in your photo is affected by the White Balance setting. That's because your camera uses it as the reference point..
Why White Balance?
The color temperature of light can look very different. The way a candle lights up a subject is very different than a sunny day. Each scenario is a bit different, but usually, your eyes automatically calibrate and the scene looks natural.
Your camera is not as smart as your brain, however. If the right balance settings are wrong in the camera, then the image will take on a distinct color cast. While this can occasionally look ok, it often is too pronounced and looks unnatural. At this point, getting it right when you edit the photo becomes critical.
In-Camera or at the Computer?
Now you might be asking - Can’t I just use Auto White Balance in my camera? Auto White Balance can do quite a good job, but it isn't 100% accurate all the time. So sometimes we need to be able to do a few corrections ourselves.
Luminar offers useful controls in the RAW Develop and Develop filters for fixing White Balance issues. Simply launch the "Professional" workspace to access all the tools you need.
